Route 147 was launched in 2005 as part of the ongoing Higher Education Precinct (HEP) Travel Plan, which aims to promote and encourage sustainable travel at the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and the Central Manchester Hospitals. The 147 runs every 10 minutes on weekdays, providing a vital link for staff, students and visitors alike.
Route 147 features high quality, electric hybrid buses operated by Bullocks and is subsidised by the Universities, RNCM and Central Manchester Hospitals, meaning ticket prices are kept simple and low. Not only does route 147 offer the cheapest, greenest bus ride in Manchester but also consistently achieves a high customer satisfaction rating.
The ‘147 Oxford Road Link’ as it’s known (and can be seen clearly on the branded buses) provides a direct link between Manchester Piccadilly Station, the University campus buildings and RNCM on Oxford Road and the MRI, Eye Hospital, St Mary’s and the Children’s Hospital (now known as Central Manchester Hospitals).
